When you foster a husky through Shadow Husky Rescue, you become the most important part of that dog's journey. You'll provide a safe, loving temporary home — daily walks, meals, cuddles, and the stability a rescue dog desperately needs while we work to find their forever family. Most foster placements in our Riverside County network last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the dog's medical progress and how quickly the right adoptive family comes along.
Many of the huskies in our care come from urgent situations — pulled from shelters, surrendered by overwhelmed owners, or recovering from medical procedures that require quiet home recovery rather than kennel life. Your home literally becomes their lifeline. And yes — sometimes fosters fall head over heels and decide to adopt. We call it a "foster fail," and it might be our favorite kind of outcome.

We provide food, a crate, leash, collar, and basic supplies so you're not spending a dime out of pocket. Your job is to love them — we handle the logistics.
Full Veterinary Coverage
All vet bills, medications, follow-up care, and emergency treatment are covered by Shadow Husky Rescue. You will never be on the hook for medical costs — that's our responsibility, not yours.
Breed Expertise On Call
Huskies are a unique breed and Tim 'Master Wolf' McVicker has been living and breathing this breed since 2006. You have direct access to real breed-specific guidance whenever you need it — no generic hotline, just someone who genuinely knows these dogs.
Ongoing Placement Support
We actively work to find the right adoptive family for your foster dog. You focus on care and bonding; we handle applications, screening, adoption events at PetSmart Menifee, and matching — so no foster home feels stuck.
Medical Dog Expertise
Some of our fosters are recovering from complex surgeries or ongoing treatment. Our team prepares you fully for post-op care and coordinates with our veterinary partners — including UC Davis — so you always know exactly what your foster dog needs.

Do You Qualify to Foster a Husky in Southern California?
The good news: you do not need prior rescue or fostering experience to open your home to a Shadow Husky Rescue dog. What matters most is a stable home environment, a genuine love for the breed, and the bandwidth to give a husky the time and attention they thrive on.
Here's what we look for in foster families across Menifee, Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Corona, and surrounding Riverside County communities: a fully fenced yard is strongly preferred (huskies are legendary escape artists), a household where someone is home a meaningful portion of the day, and a willingness to introduce a foster husky carefully and patiently to any existing pets.
Renters are welcome to apply; we simply ask that you have documented landlord permission for dogs. 3. Meet Your Foster Husky
We'll introduce you to a husky whose needs and personality fit your home. Whether it's a high-energy pup fresh from a shelter pull or a dog in post-surgical recovery, we match thoughtfully — every time.
4. Welcome Them Home
Your foster husky arrives with everything they need — food, supplies, full medical records, and a detailed briefing from our team. The first few days are all about letting them decompress and feel safe.
5. Support the Adoption Process
You'll share updates, photos, and personality notes that help us tell your foster dog's story to potential adopters. Your insight is invaluable — you know this dog better than anyone.
